Ash/Satoshi
If you don't know who Ash is, then what kind of fan ARE you? Ash is the main character in the series, and if you want my opinion, the dumbest. Okay, I know there are plenty of people who could argue about this (most people think James is the real idiot), but think about it for a sec. At least half of the Pokémon he sees he doesn't know about... Sure, sometimes he only pulls out Dexter to load the data into it and to find out a bit more, but a lot of time he asks "What is that?" before consulting the Pokédex. At least James knows most of the Pokémon.
Anyway... Ash has several Pokémon, more than any of the other of the main characters but still a pitiful amount. Gary always seems to have at least 20 to 40 more than him (depending on which episode you're using to compare--some episodes say he has more than others). His first Pokémon was Pikachu, of course. He then caught a Caterpie (which evolved into Metapod, then Butterfree), then Pidgeotto, then Bulbasaur, then Charmander (which evolved into Charmeleon, then Charizard), then Squirtle (tell me if I got those 3 mixed up!), then Krabby, then Muk, then Primeape, then somewhere along the line he caught a bunch of Tauros, but of course we didn't get that episode translated, did we? Noooo, they didn't show THAT episode! And all because of stupid cartoon violence!
His Pokémon seem much more experienced than normal ones... I mean come on, how many Bulbasaur learn Solar Beam before evolving? How many Charmander know Flamethrower? How many Squirtle know Skull Bash? And... to completely disregard the game, how can Pikachu know Thundershock, Quick Attack, Swift, Agility, Thunderbolt, AND Thunder all at the same time? Pikachu don't even LEARN Thunderbolt! I guess Ash is extremely lucky.
And BOY is he lucky. He got his first badge from Brock because he 'was the real winner' even though he would have lost the match if the sprinklers hadn't gone off. Misty didn't even give him the Cascade badge; her sisters did because they thought he was good enough. His third badge was pure luck; if nobody had told him about Pikachu's Agility and Swift moves, he would never have lost. His fourth badge... I won't even get into it. He didn't win at all; Haunter sorta just made Kadabra incapable of fighting. The fifth badge he got because he saved Gloom; he was losing anyways... The sixth badge he actually earned, I was surprised!
Aside from his patheticness, he's actually a really good trainer. Or maybe his Pokémon are training him. I don't know. Maybe both! Heh... I think if he was a bit smarter (and did something about that hair), he'd be one of my favorite characters. He's sooo stubborn... gah, it's the only reason he does so good. He seems like your average 10-year-old boy, I guess. But I doubt most 10-year-olds go off on Pokémon journeys. Who cares?
There are some things that he says a lot... whenever he sees a wild Pokémon, the first thing he usually does (aside from ask Dexter) is say he's gonna catch it! And how many times has he actually caught it? I don't consider Haunter caught, because he never got it in a Pokéball and it doesn't listen to him. Then again, neither does Charizard. He's caught Caterpie and Pidgeotto and Krabby and Muk and Primeape. Bulbasaur was told to go with him, Charmander chose him over his former trainer, and Squirtle followed him. I think he caught the Tauros by accident-- by what I've seen on the Internet, he was trying to catch other Pokémon and each time he threw the ball the herd stormed by and got hit instead. I think that's funny.
...And then there's his nonexistant relationship with Misty. He likes her, obviously, but you know he won't admit it. That's what FANFICS are for, it seems! I personally don't think they'd make a good couple, otherwise I'd make them seem more of a couple in my own fanfics. I think Ash would be too busy as a Pokémon master-- of course, that's assuming he can achieve that goal. I think he has a good chance.
Don't you?
